The X Factor is a TV talent show originating in the UK and now in its 5th series since it started in 2004. The series is based around finding singing talent, where dance routines and a general stage present are usually important in the success of the rising stars. The show starts with a round of auditions to determine which contestants will be picked to advance to the final stages of the competition. The auditions this year were held in June and July and consisted in a number of open auditions that anyone could attend throughout the country. These are only recently being shown on the show, and are one of the main reasons some people watch X Factor. It is fascinating to see those with potential and those who get it completely wrong.

Once the auditions are over, hopefuls will be sent to a boot camp to further determine who gets to perform on the live shows. From here, a series of live performances will take place each week. Those who watch X Factor will watch the performances and decide who goes and who stays each week, until it is whittled down to two or three in the final. It will be interesting to see how this year’s winner will compare to last year’s Leon Jackson, or the famous star Leona Lewis from 2006.

X Factor has become unmissable viewing, with many viewers choosing to watch X Factor not only due to the talent of the contestants, but for the chemistry between the judges. This year original judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh will return, accompanied by last year’s judge and winner, Dannii Minogue, as well as new judge singer Cheryl Cole. Long-standing judge Sharon Osbourne famously left the show during the summer, amidst claims that she fired herself for not winning the show.

The X Factor shows each week, after the audition and boot camp stages, are all live including songs by each contestant and comments from each of the judges on their performance and improvement. The results show is shown later in the evening when the two contestants who have received the lowest votes are asked to sing again, where the judges then make the ultimate decision as to who goes and who remains to sing again. As the number of contestants gets fewer, the competition will hotten up. Each contestant will be able sing more than one song, and the quality of the performance is usually better and better.
